Advanced Machine & Engineering: Sitema Safety Catchers

Single-acting clamping devices stop falling vertical loads

Advanced Machine & Engineering: Sitema Safety Catchers

Sitema Safety Catchers by Advanced Machine and Engineering (AME) are clamping devices that mount around shafts to decelerate, stop and support falling vertical loads, preventing personnel injury or equipment damage.

Encased in each housing is a series of wedged clamping jaws, each with one slide lining and one brake lining. During normal machine function, hydraulic or pneumatic pressure is applied to the plunger, forcing it upward and compressing the spring at the top of the jaw.

The jaws are held in a raised position so the shaft can move freely. If a loss of pressure releases the plungers, the spring biases the clamping jaws to engage, decelerate and stop the falling load, providing a safety factor ranging between 2:1 and 4:1.
