Mayr Power Transmission will showcase its robotics and automation safety systems at Smart Production Solutions (SPS) 2026 in Hall 4, Booth 278.
The trade show will be held Nov. 24-26 in Nuremberg, Germany.
Mayr said its highly-integrated, customizable solutions and efficient standards can help create space for smooth mechanical processes. Safety brakes such as the ROBA Topstop series are used for this purpose.
The matching ROBA Brake Checker module enables sensorless brake monitoring. Combined with the ROBA Gateway, the system can deliver valuable data for proactive maintenance, a digital twin, and smart production environments.
During a roundtable session at SPS, Mayr will present its hollow shaft brakes for applications with high torque and a large space requirement inside the application.
In automated production systems, on robots or on gravity-loaded axes, the protection of people and material is essential. Failsafe safety brakes that apply in the de-energized position provide the foundation here.
ROBA Topstop holds loads in position reliably and prevents uncontrolled movements in case of power outages or emergency stops. As they are placed between the motor and the output, the brakes can be retrofitted in existing constructions - a solution that reduces effort and costs.
For everyday industrial use, the ROBA Topstop brake system is designed as an independent, compact module. O-rings at the interfaces ensure reliable sealing against dust and moisture, providing IP66 protection as standard.
The vertical axes remain secured even when the drive is dismantled, which is advantageous during maintenance and transport. Thanks to the adaptable flange dimensions, the system can be easily integrated into existing constructions.
The ROBA Topstop is equipped with a standardized plug for easy connection and integration into sensorless monitoring systems.
With their extremely slim design and low weight, ROBA Servostop safety brakes are tailored to the requirements of robotics and easily withstand demanding operating conditions. After the power is switched off or in case of power failure, the brakes ensure reliable and secure holding of the axes in any position.
Brakes from the modular ROBA Servostop series are suitable for a wide variety of installation situations. There is a choice of servo brakes for standard servo motors with hub and toothed rotor, in classic or slim design. The ROBA Servostop Cobot is the ideal solution for integration into the joints of lightweight robots.
Torque motors with a large, free inner diameter are used in applications with high torques. Rotational freedom and unobstructed installation space on the inside are decisive factors here.
From robotics through observation technology to maritime systems including deep-sea robotics, such high-performance direct drives solve several design problems and, thanks to their annular construction (a flat, ring or donut-shaped design) are what make certain designs possible in the first place.
One challenge is finding safety brakes that fit the same annular geometry. Mayr develops electromagnetic hollow shaft brakes as customer-specific solutions for precisely this requirement.
With the ROBA Brake Checker, Mayr offers a module that monitors the safety brakes without the need for additional sensors. It recognizes the brake’s condition based on current and voltage trends, enabling proactive maintenance.
Critical parameters - such as switching time, coil temperature, and functional reserves - are reliably detected.
The additional ROBA Gateway module is network-compatible so collected data can be integrated into existing remote maintenance systems or used to create digital twins, helping to ensure smart production and more transparency in the drive line.
Besides the technology, Mayr also offers support during engineering with a validation tool that uses safety characteristic value B10d to make dimensioning according to ISO 13849-1 easier.
This user guide/checklist provides bundled and structured information on the brake, in accordance with the standard, regarding fundamental and well-tried safety principles, components, fault lists, etc. according to ISO 13849-2.
This tool allows design engineers to easily and reliably check whether the brakes may be considered well-tried components within the meaning of the standard for the respective application or - and this is an important point for safety - whether they may not.
