Power transmission component provider Mayr recently opened a production facility in Halol, India.
Mayr produces power transmissions, motors and drives, torque limiters, safety brakes, and shaft couplings for multiple industrial applications, including robot arms, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and vertical lift systems such as automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS).
Since the 1990s, the family business Mayr has been serving the Indian market via a sales partnership with a local authorized dealer.
Recently, the company opened its own production plant in Halol, near Vadodara in the Indian state of Gujarat, allowing it to produce safety brakes and clutches directly on site for the local market, helping to ensure safety and reliability in machines and systems.
“The plant in Halol near Vadodara is not so much about breaking new ground in India,” said Thomas Gebler, Mayr India director of sales. “We have worked successfully with a local sales partner there for more than 30 years. This valuable foundation has ensured that we have continued to develop and that our brand has achieved a certain level of recognition. So now it was time to take the next step.”
By manufacturing locally, Mayr said it is now able to meet the demand for its products “made in India” and thus serve the Indian market directly.
“Our aim here is to create added value locally and to be able to supply the local market competitively,” said Ferdinand Mayr, Mayr Group CEO.
In addition to the headquarters in Mauerstetten, Germany, the 125-year old family business opened manufacturing facilities in Ostrzeszów, Poland in 1994 and Zhangjiagang, China in 2006. Mayr opened its fourth production facility in Halol toward the end of 2024. Its U.S. offices are located in Mahwah, N.J.
Mayr said it is a component manufacturer with the highest quality standards, as its products stand for safety and reliability in machines and systems.
“With our strategy and our different plants, we are well positioned to master the complexity and different technological levels,” said Christian Tanner, Mayr India director of operations. “By using the same test benches in all our plants, we can guarantee high quality standards locally and at the same time tap into cost potential for local markets.”
