Did you see Spot during the June 10, 2025 episode of America’s Got Talent?
Five Spot robot dogs from Boston Dynamics auditioned on the popular talent competition, performing a choreographed dance to the hit Queen song “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
Following the performance, which resulted in a standing ovation from the crowd, the four AGT judges: Simon Cowell, Mel B, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara gave four "yes" votes, advancing the robots to the next stage of the competition.
The Spot robot is deployed in numerous locations and industries, but this specialized performance was a first-of-its-kind performance. Boston Dynamics’ engineers and developers spent several weeks preparing for the routine.
Boston Dynamics used a specialized, proprietary software called Choreographer to build the dance routine. In conjunction with animation software, the five Spot robot dogs were seemingly able to convey emotion through their fluid movements.
The company said that its audition on America’s Got Talent was to spread awareness to the general population about Spot. Thousands of Spot robot dogs are deployed, largely in industrial facilities or public safety settings, largely away from the public eye.
Spot performs equipment inspections, runs experiments in labs and handles more tasks, but the company said its AGT performance expands its visibility to the larger American public. And, Boston Dynamics said it demonstrates the advancements of robotics and AI.
In addition, Boston Dynamics said it wanted to help combat the negative perception of robots. By showcasing Spot’s abilities and interactions with humans, the company said it hopes to further reinforce robotics’ abilities to augment and assist humans while inspiring the next generation of young roboticists.
