By Work Safety 24/7 Staff

The ZEUS enabling switch from Electro-Matic, a SunSource Company, is a three-position, handheld, portable device that allows operators to safely control industrial machinery while inside the danger zone for programming, testing, or service work.

These enabling switches are three-position (OFF-ON-OFF) devices that allow the machinery to function only when the switch is pressed halfway. Since operators may react differently to sudden, unexpected events, the safety system will turn off the machinery if the enabling switch is not maintained in the middle position.

ZEUS enables fatigue-free activity, thanks to its ergonomic and lightweight design. It is suitable for left and right-handed people, and can be easily operated while wearing gloves.

In-hand sensor

The ZEUS hold-to-run switch can be equipped with an in-hand sensor to provide protection against manipulation. By means of hand detection in combination with a vibration sensor, manipulation of the permission switch can be prevented.

Emergency stop

An emergency stop is required on every application, when the emergency stop is located on the machine, accessibility must always be considered.

By equipping the hold-to-run switch with an emergency stop, the procedure to stop the machine is much shorter and this makes for a safer situation.

61 different machine functions

With the ZEUS permission switch it is possible to directly activate, start, and stop up to 61 different machine functions via the 7-segment display, including:

  • Operation of up to 120 axes/functions
  • Extended LED diagnostics
  • Hand recognition
  • “Operator control” through activity sensor
  • Rocker/function switch
  • Large selection of connectors

The ZEUS enabling and operation switch can be used when it is necessary for work such as commissioning, maintenance, servicing, or setting up authorization operations.
