Mezzanine Safeti-Gates, Inc. recently announced the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) awarded a registered trademark for its RobotGate.

Executives from Mezzanine Safeti-Gates discussed RobotGate, as well as the company’s full line of mezzanine safety gates, at MODEX 2026. The trade show was hosted by MHI April 13-16 in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Trademarking RobotGate reinforces our commitment to innovation and our customers,” said Aaron Conway, Mezzanine Safeti-Gates, Inc. president. “It ensures that when companies specify our solutions, they know they’re getting a trusted, purpose-built system designed to protect both their people and their automation investments.”

The RobotGate trademark is registered under No. 8,198,482. It is the company’s second trademark, with Roly being its first.

Prevent robot falls through lift shafts

The RobotGate is a safety gate that protects industrial robots from falling into shafts of vertical reciprocating conveyors (VRCs) or elevators in automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) of material handling, warehousing, and distribution facilities.

RobotGates can also be used to separate employees from robots in picking operations. For example, when robots are used in picking operations with humans, especially those that are not equipped with sensors to detect people, RobotGates ensure there is no direct interaction between the robot and the operator.

The RobotGate uses a power-operated, single gate system that provides fall protection for ASRS automated robots and pallet shuttles as they move from level to level. The steel safety gate interlocks with the elevator or VRC and mounts to existing pallet rack and any floor rails the robots use to move around the area.

Keeping its shaft-facing gate closed to prevent robots or vehicles from entering the elevator shaft, the RobotGate only opens when the elevator is present and aligned with the floor on that level.
