After the engineer stopped a consist of 55 railcars, the conductor fouled the track and went between two railcars to apply the hand brake on one of the railcars being spotted on a yard track. As the conductor was applying the hand brake located at the rear of the railcar, the railcar began to roll backward on a descending grade and struck the conductor, causing severe injuries to his lower legs.
