Sitema Safety Catchers single-acting clamps decelerate, stop, and support falling vertical loads through a series of wedged clamping jaws that clamp onto shafts when pressure is lost.
By Advanced Machine & Engineering

Sitema Safety Catchers by Advanced Machine and Engineering (AME) are clamping devices that mount around shafts to decelerate, stop, and support falling vertical loads, preventing personnel injury or equipment damage.

Encased in each housing is a series of wedged clamping jaws, each with one slide lining and one brake lining. During normal machine function, hydraulic or pneumatic pressure is applied to the plunger, forcing it upward and compressing the spring at the top of the jaw.

The jaws are held in a raised position so the shaft can move freely. If a loss of pressure releases the plungers, the spring biases the clamping jaws to engage, decelerating and stopping the falling load, providing a safety factor ranging between 2:1 and 4:1.

Product features

  • Fail-Safe, Power-Off Clamping: Automatic spring-engaged, power-released locks secure loads during power or pressure loss.
  • Infinitely Variable Positioning: Secure clamping at any position along the rod, enabling precise and flexible positioning without fixed notches.
  • Pneumatic or Hydraulic Actuation: Easily integrates with existing pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder systems.
  • Bi-Directional Holding: Equal holding force in both tension and compression directions, ensuring stability in all directions.
  • High Clamp Force: Supports load capacities from several hundred pounds up to 80,000 lbf, ideal for a wide range of cylinder sizes and press applications.
  • Rugged Reliability: Heavy-duty, industrial-grade construction with proven safety performance and certified OSHA compliance engineered and manufactured in the USA.

Hennig is the exclusive North American provider of Sitema clamping units and linear brakes that act on round rods.

Sitema's products can equip machinery with devices that automatically secure loads during power loss, provide redundant safety for vertical axes, and deliver precise locking for positioning tasks. From preventing a press ram from free-falling to holding a robotic arm in exact position, Sitema covers a wide range of applications where uncontrolled movement is not an option.
