Provider of industrial automation systems KEB America, the North American subsidiary of KEB Automation KG, recently showcased its motion control suite for robotics and automation systems engineers at Automate 2025.

The trade show was hosted by the Association for Advancing Automation (A3) May 12-15 at the Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, Mich.

KEB said by integrating its S6 servo drives, TA servo motors, Compact 3 embedded controllers, and X1 human-machine interfaces (HMIs), automation manufacturers can achieve precise and efficient handling of their machine’s dynamic movements.

Coordinated screw cam interlacing

KEB America showcased coordinated motion in its booth, including an interactive demo featuring four S6 servo drives powering four TA servo motors, which worked together to precisely synchronize the back-and-forth motion of interlacing screws.

The coordinated camming profiles in this motion were powered by KEB’s Compact 3 embedded controller. Visualization of the operation was handled by the X1 HMI, utilizing the latest version of HELIO HMI software.

“We added safety light curtains for attendees to directly experience the S6's safety features, safe limited speed (SLS) and safe torque off (STO) in real-time operation,” said Jonathan Bullick, National Sales Manager at KEB America.

Products featured at Automate 2025

  • KEB S6 Servo Drives: Offering robust control algorithms, the S6 servo drives deliver high precision and dynamic motion control essential for demanding industrial applications. Its versatility supports a wide range of motor types and feedback systems, offering scalability and flexibility for diverse machine designs. Integrated safety functions - safety over EtherCAT (FSoE), PROFIsafe - and comprehensive communication capabilities can help ensure seamless integration into complex automation architectures.
  • KEB TA Servo Motors: Engineered for optimal performance with KEB servo drives, the TA series permanent magnet synchronous motors come in six frame sizes, offering torque ratings from .5 Nm to 90 Nm and motor speeds ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 rpm. This range caters to the specific demands of various robotic axes and automated tasks. Their high efficiency, reliability, and precise feedback via high-resolution encoders can ensure accurate and dependable operation in demanding robotic applications.
  • KEB Compact 3 Embedded Controller: This controller provides a platform for running machine control logic, coordinating complex motion sequences, and managing communication with other automation components. Its real-time performance and support for standard programming languages make it an ideal system for controlling intricate movements and automated processes.
  • KEB X1 HMIs and HELIO HMI Software: The X1 HMI series, powered by the HELIO HMI development tool, offers intuitive operator interfaces for monitoring machine status, configuring parameters, and interacting with the automation system. This customizable HMI system can simplify industrial operations, diagnostics, and troubleshooting through clear and accessible visualization of critical data.
