The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recently released its 2026 schedule for free Black Lung screenings.
The NIOSH Coal Worker's Health Surveillance Program (CWHSP) offers periodic black lung screenings at no cost to coal miners in the U.S. NIOSH travels to coal mining regions across the U.S. and offers screenings through its mobile health unit.
NIOSH is offering free, confidential black lung screenings to coal miners beginning in March. Screenings will run through West Virginia, Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana.

Screening results provide miners with information about their health and help them make informed decisions throughout their coal mining careers.
