The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) released its 2027 Safety Conference & Expo call for speakers.

Whether you're a seasoned speaker or new to the stage, if you have a compelling story or expertise to share, ASSP wants to hear your proposal. The society is seeking speakers who can share real-world experiences and case studies, offer actionable insights and new perspectives, and engage audiences through interactive and dynamic presentations.

Proposals are due by Sept. 8 at 11:59 p.m. CDT.

The Conference Planning Committee will accept up to two proposals from each applicant. A separate application is required for each proposal.

The 2027 Conference will be held June 7-9, 2027 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Application requirements

ASSP said its Safety 2027 Conference will provide a forum for EHS professionals to:

  • Discuss key issues facing EHS professionals
  • Expand their knowledge
  • Build competencies to face challenges in EHS
  • Engage in the discourse concerning the profession
  • Identify emerging issues relevant to the profession

Applicants may select one of two formats:

  1. Lecture - A traditional, instructor-led lecture designed to share knowledge and insights with a broad audience - ideal for research findings, case studies, and best practice overviews
  2. Roundtable - An interactive, discussion-based roundtable focused on collaboration and peer exchange - designed for small groups to encourage open dialogue, networking, and idea-sharing among participants.

Each application must include:

  • A description with up to three expected learning outcomes - 600 words maximum
  • An abstract for conference marketing - 60 words maximum
  • A statement describing why this topic is relevant to attendees and the profession - 150 words maximum
  • A description of your qualifications related to the topic - 600 words maximum
  • A list or description of relevant prior speaking experience - 300 words maximum
  • Experience level of expected attendees

Each one-hour presentation will be delivered in person, including 15 minutes for questions.

Evaluation guidelines

ASSP said speaker proposals are evaluated objectively with emphasis on the following criteria (listed in order of significance):

  • Degree to which the proposed session meets the conference/program objectives
  • Desirability of the topic
  • Speaker's presentation skills and experience

Proposals must contain and convey sufficient detail to allow the Committee to understand how the proposed session will support the conference objectives. Selection is competitive, so ASSP advises you must submit a compelling and complete proposal.

ASSP will email notification of acceptance by Jan. 31, 2027. Speakers will receive a full complimentary conference registration.

Please visit ASSP’s website to review all guidelines and requirements before submitting a proposal.
